What is UAN?
UAN (Universal account number) is a 12 digit unique number provided to each employee contributing to Employee’s Provident Fund (EPF). The unique number is generated and assigned by EPFO, and authenticated by Ministry of Labour and Employment. This number remains the same for each employee throughout their life, irrespective of the number of times they have joined new organisations.

UAN Activation -

Why is it important to activate UAN?
UAN activation helps an employee to manage his/her PF account. An employee can track both employee and employer contributions in real-time by linking all PF accounts under single UAN.

Instructions to Activate UAN
• Click on activate UAN
• Put your Aadhar details
• Click on SEND OTP
• Put OTP
• After that a password will be sent by EPFO to your number. Note-Mobile number should be linked with Aadhaar.

Linking KYC with UAN

Why is it important for linking KYC with UAN?
Linking KYC with UAN is important to make sure an employee’s contribution is getting credited to correct UAN. It helps to avoid any issues related to UAN benefits and contributions later on. It ensures, all transactions- withdrawals, advances and pension are done to correct bank account linked with the UAN.

How to Login to EPFO Unified Portal:
• Log in using your UAN (Universal Account Number) and password.
• Enter the CAPTCHA and click on the "Sign In" button. 2. How to Access KYC Section:
• Once logged in, go to the "Manage" tab in the main menu.
• Click on "KYC" from the drop-down menu. 3. How to Add KYC Details:
• You’ll see a section to update your KYC details like Aadhaar, PAN, Bank Account, Passport, Driving License, Election Card, Ration Card, etc.
• Select the KYC type you wish to update by checking the box next to it.
• Fill in the details for the selected KYC, such as: • Aadhaar Number • PAN Number • Bank Account Number with IFSC Code
• Click on "Save". Verification by Concerned department: After you’ve updated the KYC details, your details will verify by concerned department
• Bank will be verify by Bank
• PAN will be verify by Income Tax department. Aadhaar will be verify by UIDAI.

NOTE- once the verification will be done by the concerned department after that this status of the KYC will show as “PENDING FOR APPROVAL”. Once your employer approves it, the status will change to "Approved by Employer". Once your KYC details are approved, they will be linked to your UAN, and you can avail of various online services like withdrawing PF, viewing passbook, and more.


HOW TO ACCESS PF ACCOUNT
Accessing PF Account via Mobile App (UMANG) UMANG App makes it easier for an employee to access his/her PF account at any time, anywhere. An employee can check their PF balance, update personal details and so much more via the app.

Steps to access -
1. Download the UMANG app from the Google Play Store or Apple Play Store.
2. Open the app, search for EPFO services.
3. Select "Employee Centric Services" and log in with your UAN and OTP.
4. You can now view your EPF passbook, raise claims, and track status. By using either the EPFO portal or the UMANG app, you can manage your EPF account easily from your phone or computer.

Checking EPF Balance

Steps to Check EPF Balance Online via EPFO Portal
1. Visit the EPFO Member Portal.
2. Log in using your UAN and password.
3. After logging in, click on the "Passbook" option here you will get new portal please login using your UAN and Password after PF passbook portal will open.
4. You can view and download your EPF passbook, which shows both employee and employer contributions, along with the total balance.

Updating Personal Details (Name, Date of Birth) via EPFO Portal:
1. Visit the EPFO Member Portal and log in using your UAN and password.
2. Once logged in, click on the "Manage" tab and select "Joint Declaration".
3. Here, you can update your Name, Date of Birth (DOB), and Gender.
4. Enter the correct details as per your Aadhaar card. Your name, date of birth, and gender should match exactly with the details in your Aadhaar.
5. After entering the updated information, submit the request.

Next Step:
• The request will be forwarded to your employer for approval.
• After employer approval, EPFO will verify the details and update them in the system.
• Once the changes are processed, you can check the status by revisiting the "Modify Basic Details" section.

How to Add Nominee Details to PF account

Why is it important to add nominee details to your PF account holder?
It is important for an employee to add nominees (spouse, children, parents) to their PF account holder, so that, the accumulated PF amount can be withdrawn in case of sudden demise of the employee.

Steps To Add Nominee details to PF account
• Login to the EPF member portal: (https://unifiedportal mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/). You must sign in using a universal account number (UAN) and password. EPFO issues the UAN, which is a 12-digit number
• Select “e-nomination” under the ‘Manage’ tab.
• Click on ‘Enter new nomination’ option.
• The ‘Provide Details’ tab will appear on the screen, click on the ‘Proceed’ button
• Now select ‘Yes’ to update the family declaration • Click on ‘Add Family Details’. Click on ‘Add now’.
• Now, go to the ‘e-nomination’ option under the ‘Manage’ tab. It displays ‘Pending Nomination’. Click on ‘e-sign’ to generate a one-time password (OTP) and submit it to the mobile number linked to Aadhaar
• A new web page will open prompting you to enter the virtual ID of Aadhaar.
• You will be directed to the tick box to provide your consent for e-KYC services data from Aadhaar.
• Enter your Aadhaar or Virtual ID again. Now, click on ‘Get OTP’, which will be sent to the registered mobile number as per the Aadhaar database Key in the OTP received on your registered mobile number. Select the check box and give your consent. Finally, click on ‘Submit’ You have successfully entered the e-nomination for EPFO. Click on the ‘Manage’ tab and recheck ‘E-Nomination’. The ‘Nomination History’ displays the status as ‘Nomination Successful’.

Claim Process for Withdrawals –

Benefits of PF withdrawals.
There are different types of PF withdrawal available for an employee during their working career or at retirement. PF amount withdrawals can help in emergency situation such as unemployment/job loss, retirement, emergency hospitalisation or for taking loans, amongst others. Listed below are some of the types of PF withdrawal.

Types of PF amount Withdrawals
You can withdraw your EPF balance partially or fully through the EPFO Member Portal.

Follow the steps below:

Full Withdrawal: You can withdraw the entire EPF amount if you have been unemployed for more than 2 months or upon retirement.
Partial Withdrawal: For specific reasons such as marriage, education, or home purchase, partial withdrawal is allowed under certain conditions.

Steps to Withdraw EPF Balance Online:
• Visit the EPFO Member Portal
• Go to the EPFO Member Portal and log in with your UAN and password.
• Go to the "Online Services" Tab
• In the portal, click on "Online Services" and select "Claim (Form-31, 19, 10C & 10D)".
• Enter the Required Details
• On the next screen, your details will appear. Enter the bank account number for verification.
• Select Claim Type
• Select the type of withdrawal you wish to make:
• For full withdrawal, choose "Form 19".
• For pension withdrawal (if eligible), choose "Form 10C".
• For partial withdrawal, choose "Form 31".
• Submit Your Claim
• After selecting the appropriate claim type, submit the claim. You can track the claim status on the portal.

Required Documentation for Withdrawal:
• Aadhaar Card linked to UAN.
• Bank Account details (linked with UAN). How to Transfer PF Balance to a New Employer When joining a new company, PF amount from previous company can be transferred to new company. Here are the steps below.

Steps to Transfer EPF Balance Online:
• Visit the EPFO Member Portal
• Log in to the EPFO Member Portal using your UAN and password.
• Go to the "Online Services" Tab
• Click on "Online Services" and select "One Member - One EPF Account (Transfer Request)" {Form-13}.
• Enter UAN and Member ID of Previous Employer
• Enter the UAN or EPF member ID of your previous employer, and submit your transfer request.
• Submit the Request - After submitting the request, your employer will approve it. Once the approval is done, the approval will be done from EPFO office the EPF balance will be transferred to your new EPF account.

Key Points to Remember:

PAN Card: Ensure your PAN is linked to avoid higher TDS (tax) on withdrawals above ₹50,000 if you are withdrawing before 5 years of service.
Aadhaar: Make sure your Aadhaar is linked to your UAN for hassle-free withdrawal or transfer.
Bank Account: Update your bank details in the EPFO portal with the correct IFSC code for direct transfer.
